Simon & Clare's crisp Autumn Wedding

January 29, 2014

It was wonderful to photograph Simon & Clare's autumn wedding back in October. I had had the chance to really get to know the couple after photographing two of Simon's cousins' weddings in the past and then photographing a summer engagement shoot for Simon & Clare themselves.

Simon and Clare chose to hold their wedding day at Horsley Park in Surrey. A truly stunning venue inside and out. It gave lots of opportunities for beautiful l wedding photography. I started the day at the couples home in Weybridge, Surrey, where Simon was getting ready with his best man, usher (his brother who had flown over from Antigua to share the special day) and his Dad. We had a lot of fun in the morning. Simon's brother Alex (usher) is well known for wearing shoes to weddings which are a little 'outside the box'. Simon & Clare had made it very clear to me that this time he would be wearing black shoes! So we thought it was very funny to capture this for the album so it would always be noted how happy Alex was to be conforming.

After everyone was ready, we headed out on to the high street to make some fun and funky portraits of the guys before heading to Horsey Park to meet the girls. Clare spent a relaxing morning with her Mum and bridesmaids, having their hair and make-up done whilst eating digestive biscuits and drinking champage! Clare was ready nice and early leaving me time to create some timeless portraits of her before she became Mrs Grimley.

Simon and Clare had chose the perfect colour scheme of autumn oranges and purples. These colours looked beautiful when photographing them with their bridle party against the tones of the autumn leaves. It was as if they had ordered the trees in matching colours.

When meeting with Simon and Clare before their wedding day we discussed what they would like me to do on their wedding day and the type of style they liked. They were lovely enough to tell me to "do whatever I thought best' & to "be as fun and creative as I could be". I wanted to make sure I captured a real mix of the style of the wedding and the fun personalitits that they had at their wedding. As you can see from the follwing images, I had fun (and hopefully so did the guests) but I also used the fabulous, 19th century chapel to capture some images of Simon and Clare together that I hope they will always treasure. The chapel was so attractive and classical it needed beautiful lighting to show off the real feel you get when you walk inside it.

There was one final element of surprise at the wedding and this was in Simon's speech where he revealed the honeymoon distination that he had organised and kept secret from Clare for many months. I think you can see from the images that Simon made the right choice in booking a magical honeymoon in the Maldives for the couple to spend their first holiday as a married couple together.

I would like to wish Simon and Clare many years of happiness and laughter together. I hope that their wedding photography will help them relive their special day for all the anniversaries to come and I look forward to photographing for them again in the future.
