Gemma & Mark's Wedding, Upwaltham Barns, West Sussex

In August this year the lovely Gemma & Mark tied the knot at the fantastic Upwaltham Barns, one of my favourite wedding venues. Upwaltham is situated in a beautiful part of the South Downs, surrounded by the well known rural Goodwood House estate. The Barns are full of character and set in amougst stunning landscapes which serve as the perfect backdrop for many newly-weds on their special day. For Gemma and Mark, the relaxed approach they embraced for their wedding worked absolutely perfectly with their elegant English country theme.

Wedding photography is such a privilege as I get a glimpse into so many different dynamics of family and it can be a beautiful thing to witness on such an important occasion. As a Mum myself, I love it when children are involved in a wedding, seeing the excitement and pride in their eyes and how important they feel being dressed up like princes and princesses! Gemma & Mark’s little baby girl Molly fulfilled the role as sweetest ever bridesmaid, matching her Mummy in a delicate white dress and making everyone’s hearts melt!

Mark’s son Jimmy also looked the part in his smart groomsmen’s attire, like a mini version of his handsome Dad! He was a fantastic model, cooperating with being moved into various different positions as I arranged all the guys for their pre-ceremony photographs. His hard work paid off as he really did add something special to these shots and slotted into the group perfectly.

Gemma was a really naturally pretty bride and wore her graceful lace dress effortlessly, her naturally long wavy hair complimenting her fresh and easy style. She had chosen a dusty rose pink for her bridesmaid's dresses which tied in with the pretty bouquets of classic pink and white roses. This seamless blend of soft pastel shades really enhanced the delightful english country theme. A really lovely touch was that Gemma had arranged for her close friends to also have bouquets so that they could feel like bridesmaids too! Gemma’s generosity and sense of fun was evident throughout that day and I was keen to capture this with those she valued surrounding her. Happy times!

This bride and groom took their wedding day in their stride and managed to represent natural simplicity through many of the decorative details. The reception was to be held in the South Barn of Upwaltham Barns and was decorated with pastel bunting, jugs of beautiful summer wildflowers and lit warmly by candlelight. It was the perfect setting to gather family and friends for the chilled and joyful meal and speeches that were to come later.

The wedding cake was the epitome of English countryside with it’s layers of Victoria Sponge, jam, cream and fresh seasonal berries. Accompanied with the pretty Gypsophilia in it’s presentation it looked every bit english country garden, not to mention absolutely delicious! I felt these little elements had been carefully selected and successfully reflected their personalities - comfortable, laid back and naturally happy.

Mark and Gemma’s day was a wonderful concoction of love, laughter and romance with it’s breezy vibe and easygoing atmosphere. Mark had delivered an incredible speech, skillfully doting on his new wife whilst leaving everyone in fits of giggles. It was a brilliant part of the day which I’m sure will be amongst everyone’s best memories, along with the fabulous party that the guests enjoyed in the evening. Mark and Gemma had chosen an energetic party band ‘Hipster’ who travelled all the way from Manchester and ensured nobody left the dance floor. All in all, a brilliant day for a wonderful couple.

Wishing you all the best in your new married life Gemma and Mark, thanks so much for having me as your wedding photographer, I absolutely loved it.

Love Kelly x
