INSPIRING SPRING
March 03, 2021
"Spring Is a Time for Plans and Projects" *
As things around us are becoming a little brighter, here at KHP we are certainly feeling a spring in our step. The days are getting warmer and longer, the birdsong louder and the colour of the fresh green bulbs and their delicate flowers stronger.
We are feeling ready and energised to start planning so that, when the time comes, we’ll be ready to spring (last spring pun… promise) into action to capture your precious 2021 moments.
Will you choose a backdrop of bursting bluebells, lush forest greens, beachy sand and sea or edgy urban textures? We will work with you and this wonderful season to create memories to last a lifetime.
In and Out of The Dusty Bluebells
First up, a standout spring location, the Bluebell Woods. These annual bursts of beauty lend such a magical feeling to a photo shoot.
KHP top tip: it’s all about timing to catch these beauties, they start popping their heads out early April and at their most impressive from then until May.
Their stunning carpets of blue serve as a perfect platform for us to artistically direct poses and postures whilst making clever use of the light to focus in on you and your loved ones.
And they also make perfect territory for inquisitive little explorers in which to capture their priceless interactions with nature’s amazing work.
It was a pure delight to capture the relationship between this adorable brother and sister during their enchanting encounters …
…and we simply loved how their strong connection remained through the joy of their explorations even when they were in their own little worlds.
Having this contrast of photographic styles and subject combinations really gives depth to your portfolio of images and if you’d like to go further, why not feature the whole family.
Families in Bloom
This charming setting was perfect for immortalising this family’s strong bonds, as all four of them take time to hang out during their walk amongst the bluebells whilst also capturing a more posed, still moment in time of just the younger family members.
NB: No bluebells are harmed in the making of these images! Please be assured, we have the utmost respect for these delicate flowers and use existing paths and logs to situate our models.
Flower Fairies
For those of you with little ones in your lives the bluebells are a gorgeous place to capture their preschool innocence forever. The entirety of this vast, magical setting with its impressive trees does an awesome job of giving scale to an image, helping you to remember just how small they were in years to come and how they totally owned their setting with a ‘anything is possible’ attitude.
Flower Power
And for older children these surroundings can offer the ‘Secret Garden’ look or a style more suited for a ‘Tween’. This younger sister totally epitomises the former with her demure pose and cute denim pinafore and Breton stripe combo while her older sister really rocked the denim as she hung out on a moss clad tree trunk bringing her own assured style.
True Blue Baby I Love You
The tranquillity of this colourful phenomenon provides an uplifting scene that lends itself perfectly to the magical wedding vibe making it a top spot for an engagement shoot.
For this couple walking in the bluebells had a personal meaning so it was an obvious location of choice for their pre-wedding shoot. We had a lot of fun working with them and all the natural spaces and props that these woods afforded, a pathway to embrace on, a tree on which to lean.
We used space a little differently by placing it between these two lovely couples for a more edgy, but equally romantic, look. We love how their fashion choices of forest hues and crisp, classic white shirts complement their surroundings and make their images unique to them.
Moving this happy couple close together in a more traditional pose and using an aerial view allowed us to incorporate the endless, dreamy path of bluebells that drifted into the background magnificently winding their way through the trees.
If You Go Down To The Woods Today
After the bluebells, the woods themselves come to life. Nature makes sure this location is equally as stunning by waving its magic wand and furnishing it with full lush greens and an incredible depth of colour. We struck gold when we hunted out this heart shaped foliage in which to frame this loved up couple.
It’s a great place to work with the light as it comes streaming through the forest’s rooftop canopy. We made sure this couple were placed perfectly to catch the sun’s stunning rays bursting through the leaves above creating a romantic glow and a very special moment between them.
You Belong Among the Wild Flowers
As the summer starts to unfold we go in search of the wild flowers and we’ve discovered some fabulous locations along the South Downs to share with you.
Together we would head to the daisy fields just as the sun is going down creating an amazing early summer glow. The delicate white flowers teamed with your choice of outfit work perfectly for any style giving a naturally free feeling or a modern edgy look to a portrait.
Posing amongst the wildflowers creates a feeling of being off the beaten track, so whether you are young at heart or born to be wild this could be the perfect location for you.
Mr & Mrs Blue Sky
Moving onto higher ground we can take full advantage of the longer evenings and the magical skies they boast. A much anticipated after work walk suddenly becomes possible and we can be there to capture it for you. We sought out the perfect vista for this couple and their beloved dog to witness this dazzling sunset.
The drama of a stunning sky and sweeping grasses make a natural and effective frame for an image.
Every time I look at this photo I fall in love with the sky all over again!
With its intense blue hue, awe inspiring cloud formations and strong sun, precisely positioned to tell the story of the warmth and light of love between two people.
Back to Business
The energy that can be captured in a spring shoot works brilliantly for corporate imagery too, whether an individual portrait or lifestyle shot for your marketing materials. We chose the beach for our budding client’s new venture shoot, keeping it local to her business and using the natural textures of the beach that fitted perfectly with her vision and values.
Life’s a Beach
Alternatively, the beach can be an ultra-dreamy location for couples as they dip their toes into the water once again. The free and flowing vibe of the beach makes it ideal for us to inject a bit of extra romance into your portraits – just check out this couple, totally in love!
Tricks of Light
Being based on the West Sussex and Hampshire coast our clients often choose a beach location, somewhere they visit regularly which often brings a significant, special meaning to their images. This couple chose a little something special to feature in theirs… their lovely dog whose reflection stands out just as strong as theirs!
Reflections are just one way we use light to create an extra dimension. The strong sunset rays cast such lovely, long sweeping shadows which worked brilliantly for these couples whilst on location at West Wittering Beach, West Sussex’s beach lovers hot spot.
It’s a total joy for us to capture moments like this one in Southsea, Portsmouth, and our couples really enjoy them too. Some even make a ‘Date Night’ after their shoot by bringing a posh picnic and blanket to enjoy whilst catching every last glimpse of the evening’s rays with the anticipation of viewing their images ahead.
Southsea’s iconic seafront offers a different but equally impactful coastal backdrop for which to work our spring time light magic. These two are certainly rocking the urban scene as they lean against the lines and texture of these gorgeous old stones in the golden light as we put a spin on things by placing them into the shadows.
As we come to an end we couldn’t resist showing just one last romantic image of this couple as the sun goes down on them and their dog. The vast open space of the beach acted as a perfect canvas for their silhouettes as they stand under the soft, mellow sky united by their loyal hound and the steady, dramatic lines of the sand, sea and horizon.
