Among the Fields of Barley

Jody & Art's Southend Barns Late Spring Wedding

Jody and Art, proud owners of Halnaker's charming Tinwood Estate were as classy and bubbly as the English sparkling wines they produce! Having bought several magnums along with them to share with guests on their beautiful sunny May wedding day, it was clear that this couple, of Dutch heritage, knew a thing or two about how best to toast such an illustrious occasion. Local to Chichester, at the foot of the scenic South Downs, established vineyards neighbouring Art's father's farm are where these successful winegrowers are well known for their tours, wine tasting and even onsite luxury accommodation. Always generously looking after other people and with such style, it was clear that Jody and Art would continue to be lavishing their warm hospitality on everyone, even on their own wedding day!

Guests were treated to an exceptional venue, menu and of course homegrown bubbles and I noticed some poignant design choices with regards to many details on show at the wedding. The chosen colour palette for the day was particularly stand-out, proudly encouraging the spirit of celebration. Vivid and zesty tones popped and sang brightly against the soft muted neutral decor of the rustic barn venue and the Tinwood brand was personified through the energy, vibrancy and effervescence of this sophisticated pair.

Outside the funky front entrance of Southend Barns, Art and his best man stood framed by the infamous white canopies, under the refreshing turquoise sky. The triangular shaping to the composition brings a feeling of strength and stability to the shot, and posed with sunglasses on and hands in the pockets of their blue suits, these guys looked effortlessly cool!  Bringing a little contrast to this powerful vibe was a small finishing touch from Jody; dotted throughout the verdant greenery around them were an array of hearts, offering a hint at the joyful and romantic vibe that would theme the day to all who were arriving!

Jody was to be found in the bridal suite getting ready with her close friend, who was also her hair stylist. She looked naturally elegant with her gorgeous tumbling curls and delicately finished fitted gown that included a long train and flattering sweetheart neckline....(Inside goss - the dress was purchased from a bridal boutique in Holland featured on the popular TV show 'Say Yes to the Dress')! Jody's contrasting bouquet with accent colours of blue and orange was designed by Gracie at the Flower Gallery who also arranged all of the stunning coordinating flowers throughout the venue that day.

Jody's Mum was there with a selection of gifts for her daughter and it was a fun and happy moment as Jody unwrapped something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue - as per the well known traditional rhyme from old English Folklore!

With vows spoken and rings exchanged, the happy couple were overjoyed to be wed and to soon be outside the Dairy Barn mingling with friends and family. Having been showered with beautiful orange petals that perfectly coordinated with Jody's bridal bouquet stem ribbon as well as Art's tie and buttonhole, it didn't take long to get a glass of Tinwood's finest sparkling wine in hand before taking an untraditional moment in the day's proceedings to cut the cake out on the neatly manicured lawn.

Designed and handcrafted by specialists Milk Street Kitchen, the summer naked cake was decorated in luscious fresh fruits and exquisite flowers which harmonised beautifully with Jody's vibrant bouquet.

It was lovely to see Jody and Art enjoying themselves as they caught up with their many guests and soaked up the pleasant spring sunshine. The Collecting Yard was a delightful setting for having a relaxed chat in the warmth of the afternoon rays or even if taking some shade on the comfy sofas under the cool of the canopies.

The atmosphere was lively and bustling and everyone was in great spirits. We had fun creating an assortment of group shots and I was encouraged that the levels of interaction and participation were very positive, with every guest being super cooperative and embracing the moment!

In the charming 200 year-old Threshing Barn, tables were simply and stylishly set with various little touches acknowledging elements of the couple's personalities and personal story. The motley table flowers tied in with the bright colour scheme and floral wedding stationery design that Jody and Art had chosen. Many toasts were made during the speeches - of course with only the finest of English sparkling wine and the Tinwood brand continued to feature throughout. Wine bottle labels had been cleverly used to decorate glass candle holders and even a display featuring a tower of honey jars revealed yet another string to the Tinwood bow. Little pairs of clogs served as a reminder of the Dutch legacy in the family which was a thoughtful touch to the decor considering all the relatives who had travelled far to be with the new Mr and Mrs.

The spectacular cake of cheese, beautifully constructed by Field & Fork, was adorned with fruits and flowers that worked effortlessly with the colourful summery theme of the day. Resting on a bespoke glass stand which encased a collection of Tinwood corks, it looked pretty magnificent.

Local DJ Nigel Smith was kicking off the evening party with some Ibiza sunset style tunes when Jody, Art and I escaped to the nearby fields for our own English sunset experience! The swaying barley fields, yet to turn fully golden, had awesome texture and turned out to be an idyllic location for some photographs of the happy newly weds. With farming in Art's bones, it seemed a fitting place to capture him with his beautiful bride. We watched the sun illuminate the barley which appeared to glow all around them as the light slowly started to fade. It was truly a breathtaking scene.

Back to the party and a crowded dance floor, the couple took to it, really enjoying letting their hair down with family and friends.

Ensuring the night went out with a literal bang, the celebration came to a close with a spectacular firework finale, leaving guests wowed after what had been a truly exceptional day.
