Fiona and Jack’s Southend Barns Summer Wedding
Fiona and Jack’s wedding day at the charming Southend Barns set within the beautiful West Sussex countryside proved to be a delightful mix of traditional touches and unconventional outcomes.
This lovely couple requested something more ‘Out of the Box’ from their photography whilst wanting to blend the family customs that were dear to them.
Combining their imaginative vision and my creative direction we orchestrated a collection of personal, engaging and amusing images to tell their specific story... Expect the unexpected!
The couple kept their outfits classy and classic with Fiona in her elegant white gown with high neckline and unique detailed back design with full skirt from Hannah Elizabeth Bridal Boutique and Jack in his MacDonald family clan tie complete with dark blue tweed suit from Astares.
When it came to styling out their attire the results were a step away from the classical as we broke from tradition when posing them in the corn fields.
Continuing to add interest to Fiona and Jack’s images and to showcase their chosen venue we made sure to use Southend Barns many picturesque locations throughout the day keeping on the move for the group photographs - all the while working with the English weather!
I knew fun and versatility was the order of the day so I took delight in getting to know them and their guests’ character and personality so that we could capture the true joy of the day.
The couple loved breaking from the norm under the rustic wooden beams in the Secret Garden as Fiona flashes her garter flanked by Jack, wielding her stunning full bouquet of delicate blue hydrangeas created by the talented team at Nursery Fresh Floral Design and her brother holding Alber the ring bearing dog whilst their friends strike their own comical poses of Peace and Love.
Here at KHP we’ve always felt that group shots should be entertaining and bring out peoples natural characters - we truly believe they are a fun and genuinely enjoyable part of the day. An opportunity to detail important relationships and celebrate the special or unique connection a couple share with their family and friends.
The Milking Parlour’s private courtyard and water feature provided another opportunity for comedy as we captured the Maid of Honour and Best Man ‘Photobombing’ from behind the exquisite bushes on either side - adding something unique to a traditional romantic moment!
It became apparent that all of their guests were up for joining in the frivolity. We love the unmistakable pride and happiness on their parents’ faces during the signing of the register in the dreamy Dairy Barn Ceremony Room - even Alber the dog got in on the action!
It was always going to happen.

So we did it with a bit of class and added comedy and we like to think a little style too!
What they didn’t expect was for us to turn the tables - throwing the limelight back onto the bride and groom. Right back at you boys!
It was all fun and games on the lawn when Fiona threw the bouquet to the ladies in her life keen for a piece of the action themselves - another chance to capture the humour of the day and the bridal look in its entirety including her expert hair and makeup by Rosie-Lee.
The bouquet wasn’t the only thing being thrown; there were plenty more eager contestants ready to show off their sporting prowess even in the slightly damp August conditions - rain couldn’t stop play on this happy day.
The couple put a twist on the traditional top table speeches by delivering a joint speech and together with the father of the bride’s speech filled the Threshing Barn with heartwarming, natural laughter - memories for us to capture and preserve forever.
Amidst the fun, laughter and creativity of the day was the love and sentiment shared between the bride and groom. We adore this naturally peaceful moment of Fiona and Jack alone together in the fields surrounding the venue. Her delicate veil gently blows in the wind under the summer’s lowering sun as Jack gently places a kiss on Fiona’s forehead. Such bliss.
Fiona and Jack you and your wedding party certainly kept me on my toes!
We loved venturing around the barns with you sharing in so much laughter and emotion and we hope that your adventures in life together provide as much enjoyment to you both.
